Emily Strange

This is true.

I am scared of going to the Post Office.

I'm not alone in this, I know that. But it's still extremely frustrating. Today is the deadline for posting audiography mixes, and I've had them sitting in envelopes for quite a while now, waiting to be sent. I've got to go to a post office; I've got to talk to someone behind a little perspex window because two of them are going to America and one is going to Singapore. I usually get my mum to post things for me, because I am convinced that if I go to the post office, I will be in a queue with four hundred tiny mad old people, and I will get in their way, and they will hate me for being young and tall, but even more, they will hate me for being clueless, because I'll have to ask questions at the little perspex window and I'll hold them up. I am convinced that when I leave the post office, it will be to be greeted by an army of pensioners, all of whom will try to kill me.

Somewhat oddly, I really do mean this. Oh well. katyha, I'd hope there's one in Clapham somewhere, and do you suppose you could be persuaded to come with me at least as far as the door?

I'm not making this up. I think they probably are, though.

Remember I mentioned the unintentional hilarity of The Future Is Wild a couple of weeks ago? This morning's featured Flish - fish that fly, obviously - being caught and eaten by a shapeshifting bright orange slime mould, which gets around the thick forests of 200,000,000 years' time by being eaten by five-metre-high Land Squid, taking control of their brains, and then being sneezed out through the Land Squid's noise-making pouch, where it may hang in the trees along with, yes, Squibbons - much smaller squid that swing from tree to tree and may, so the programme tells us, be intelligent enough to form the basis of an entirely new civilisation.

"I don't know" is a much quicker answer to the question "What will life be like 200,000,000 years in the future?" and it also requires far less CGI. But, on the other hand, it doesn't include Squibbons.

(no subject)

I don't seem to be capable of staying awake past about ten o'clock these days - anything after that is just borrowed time. So I'm going to bed instead of working - sorry, therosewilde, I'll have a look properly tomorrow morning when I'm not slightly too tired to see. Had a lovely evening with asrana, though, and yay! I have a sparksoflight coming round tomorrow to have Dungeons & Dragons (the movie. of bad.) inflicted on her, and probably various other things. This is good.

Also, I found the scarf, and have now covered everyone's presents except my nan's. Maybe mum can help with that one.

Also also, thanks for your good thoughts. The scary bad thing has been taken care of and all is well with everyone again. Hurray.
