Weekly mix : Let the Reindeer Live on my Roof [Dec. 18th, 2010|09:14 am]
DurAnorak
So, I totally made a mix! And I was going to make cover art, too, but then this week was crazy and now this morning I have to go home to Sussex, so you're going to have to live without a cover for this one. It is a Christmas mix and as is my wont it features all varieties of nonsense, so I hope there's something for you. Or at least something for you to mock. :)

It's that time of year, leave all our hopelessnesses asideCollapse )

Incidentally, words cannot express my joy at finding some of the Gilbert & Sullivan operetta that shaped my entire life on YouTube. I've mentioned this to some of you before, but now, now I get to show you what I mean when I say that parents shouldn't leave impressionable tiny people to watch this stuff alone without explaining to them that this is not how the world is.

Otherwise they will grow up, like I did, genuinely expecting all men to behave like this.

You know I'm not kidding, right? :x

But like they say, the blood is thicker. [Dec. 12th, 2010|05:58 pm]

Never let it be said I'm not one to admit when I've been wrong. Seven years too late, I finally get what it is about the Dresden Dolls. To be honest, I'm sort of glad I didn't understand it when I was young and mental enough that I'd have overidentified with it all even more than I do now. Still, my apologies to the people who tried to make me understand; I always knew they were good, I just didn't know I could love their music.

clockworkwasp and I hit up the Book of the Dead exhibition today. I was pleasantly surprised by how understated and respectful it was - in the gift shop they've always got chocolate mummies and spangly Bast tree decorations so I was slightly concerned it'd all be a bit 'here's an animation of a reconstruction of some stuff we've made up! look, DEATH!' - and for once someone with some sanity was in charge of the atmospheric music, which stayed mostly out of the way and was exactly what I would have used. (The Tutankhamun exhibition at the O2 was running some painful Wailing Bint : Desert Edition stuff when I went, and should be ashamed of itself.) I managed not to buy every book in the bookshop and now I am home, having succeeded in buying Christmas presents for everyone in my family. Weak with relief, I shall now sort cover versions until I have to sleep. :)

Who just booked to see Patrick Wolf in like three months? Oh, right. It's totally me.

Today was a good day. Found presents for family, had lunch & talked about music with the lovely rosenkavalier, came home, was reminded that Christopher Lee has released a metal album about Charlemagne, now I have tea and am sorting through a couple of hundred cover versions. And seeing Patrick Wolf in like three months. YES.

General consensus to previous post seems to be weekly mixes, by the way, which is fine with me; if you'd like to suggest a theme I welcome them, but I've no shortage of possibilities either so I'll hit you all with something sometime next week either way. :)

But the clouds are clearing up and I've come reveling [Dec. 9th, 2010|10:59 am]

So, a question, then :

I miss posting music - obviously - and I was wondering : daily song, or weekly mix? It's up to you, my sweet companions. I won't keep to it either way, of course, because there'll be times I'm not here, but that's not the point - what would be more likely to hold your attention? Mixes would have themes; individual daily songs would have more written about them, I expect. Feel free to choose option three, which is 'please god, I was getting so used to this blissful quiet, enough, no more'. :)

Your unexpected, off-kilter, sliding, melancholy, girly, ethereal song about a missing cat to listen to in the snow today is here; you're welcome. Or, I'm sorry, depending on how you feel about melancholy, girly and ethereal. And cats. :)

Just watching this chap on old Come Dine With Me. Sort of surprised we don't know him, to be honest. Do we know him? ...can we know him? ...can someone go and get him?

Moritz, I've spent the entire day thinking about your note. [Nov. 27th, 2010|04:18 pm]

Late to the fun as always, but I've just started watching Misfits. Good actual christ it's great television, and I love everybody. What with this and Sherlock I don't feel too embarrassed about our TV at the moment, which is nice. All of which reminds me, I really need some Spring Awakening icons.

Stole a meme from booklectic in lieu of content, because I'm having quite a mad couple of days and being more comfortable here doesn't entirely extend to talking about panic attacks and whatnot, even if I do feel like I can tell you I'm fond of Jedward.

Under here.Collapse )

Just saw Jedward advertising attacking pixel monsters with swords on the DS. Oh Jedward. I know it's wrong, but they bring me such joy.
